Public Security begins deployment in Sweida

The Public Security Service in the southern province of Sweida began its role in maintaining security and stability on Friday, following an agreement reached between the Syrian government and Druze community leaders.

The Sweida Governorate's Telegram channel reported that security personnel were deployed in various areas of the province, in a move aimed at imposing security and enhancing local stability. This move coincides with political efforts to control the tense situation that has been raging for days in other Druze areas.

This move came after a joint statement issued by the Druze Sheikhdom and notables and authorities of the community, affirming that they are "an integral part of a unified Syria," stressing their complete rejection of any calls for partition or secession.

The statement emphasized the need to "activate the role of the Ministry of Interior and the judicial police from the province's residents," calling for "the extension of state authority and the securing of the Sweida-Damascus road, as this is a national responsibility."

These developments coincided with bloody tensions in the Ashrafieh Sahnaya and Jaramana areas of Rif Dimashq Governorate, resulting in the deaths of 16 people, including civilians and security personnel, in attacks carried out by "outlaw groups," according to official authorities. This followed the spread of an audio recording insulting the Prophet, attributed to a Druze member.

The government confirmed that it had regained control of the situation in these areas, in coordination with community leaders. An agreement was also announced in the city of Jaramana, calling for the surrender of unlicensed weapons and the reinforcement of security forces to ensure stability.
