726 car accidents recorded since January: Civil Defense

The Syrian Civil Defense documented 726 traffic accidents across Syria from the beginning of the year until April 20, resulting in the deaths of 46 civilians, including one child and four women, and the injury of 667 people, including 135 children and 77 women.

The White Helmets explained in a statement published on Sunday via its official social media accounts that its teams responded to dozens of accidents over the past few months, noting that many of the injuries were severe and critical, increasing pressure on medical personnel and health facilities in those areas.

The report indicated that excessive speed was the primary cause of approximately 31% of the accidents, while the remaining causes included sudden technical failures in vehicles, narrow roads, poor infrastructure, children driving, and improper driving behavior.

The Civil Defense indicated that accidents have become a worrying phenomenon, especially with the recent increase in movement between governorates, in light of the absence of organized traffic laws, weak traffic awareness, and the absence of strict oversight in many areas of the country.
