Eli Cohen Documents: Israel's Story Questioned

Israel announced on Sunday the recovery of approximately 2,500 documents, photos, and personal belongings of Mossad agent Eli Cohen, which it said were part of the "official Syrian archive."

However, the appearance of a Canon PowerShot SX720 camera (model 2015) in the official video released by the Israeli Prime Minister's Office of the recovered material raises a pivotal question, according to journalist Nidal Maalouf. Does this reflect the Mossad's use of relatively old technology in a recent operation, or is the video itself old and released now to coincide with the anniversary of Cohen's execution, raising doubts about the actual timing of the operation and the accompanying narrative?

A statement issued by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said: "In a complex covert operation carried out by the Mossad in cooperation with a partner intelligence agency, the official Syrian archive relating to Eli Cohen was recovered."
