There is no government plan to obtain loans: Finance Minister

Finance Minister Mohamed Yasser Barnia said that work is underway to prepare the supplementary budget for the current year and the 2026 budget, which will focus on providing basic services to citizens and focusing on the health, education, and social affairs sectors.

Barnia did not disclose budget figures, "due to the unavailability of data," he said.

In an interview with Asharq Al-Awsat on the sidelines of the Islamic Development Bank Group meetings held in Algiers, Barnia confirmed that there is currently no intention to borrow from international and regional financial institutions. Rather, the focus is on creating an attractive environment that protects investments and empowers the private sector to lead the country's economy.

The Finance Minister emphasized that Syria "is the one that develops and oversees reform programs, while benefiting from the technical expertise of international institutions and also the assistance of our Arab brothers."
Barnia stated that the government aims to provide all the necessary conditions to enable the private sector to lead the economy and create an attractive environment for investment. He emphasized, "We do not want to crowd out the private sector."
