Child Shadi Muhammad tortured to death by Assad's National Defense: Document

Zaman al-Wasl was able to uncover the fate of Shadi Ghazi al-Muhammad, whose photo appeared among the photos of detainees from the National Defense Forces militia that the newspaper previously published.

Shadi, born in 1998, was arrested in 2013 by members of the National Defense Forces, led by Fadi Saqr, when he was fourteen years old. He and his older brother Moataz were fleeing the shelling of their hometown of Houla in the Homs countryside. The brothers were transferred to Damascus and charged with "financing and supporting terrorism."

According to an official document issued by the General Secretariat of the National Defense Forces on November 26, 2015, and addressed to the Military Police - Investigation and Prisons Branch, Shadi died under torture shortly after his arrest. The document clearly mentions his name on the list of deceased.

The same document confirms the deaths of Ahmed Suleiman al-Hajjar and Hazem Fayez Khalil.

Zaman al-Wasl has been tracking the fate of Shadi for over thirty days as part of its initiative to uncover the fate of missing detainees. This effort is an attempt to uncover the details of his story, which was suppressed after he was silently killed under torture, without anyone claiming his whereabouts, publishing his photo, or even including a statement of support.
