Interior Ministry reveals reason for release of former regime officers

The Ministry of Interior clarified the circumstances surrounding the decision to release a group of former regime officers, in light of questions raised in the media and community.

An official source within the ministry confirmed that most of those included in the release decision are "active officers" who have been in detention since 2021 and have entered a state known as "trust," having voluntarily surrendered to authorities at the Iraqi border and the Sukhna area without any resistance or subsequent violations.

The official added in a press statement that the detainees underwent thorough legal investigations, and no charges were proven against them related to war crimes or serious violations committed during their previous service.

The official indicated that their continued detention does not serve any national interest and lacks legal legitimacy in light of the lack of evidence against them.

The source explained that the Ministry of Interior received a number of legitimate demands from the officers' families to release their sons. These demands were considered with a sense of legal and humanitarian responsibility, prompting the ministry to respond to them, out of a desire to preserve civil peace and societal stability, and in line with the path of justice in the new Syrian state.
