Defense ministry calls on Syrian youth to join the national army

The Syrian Ministry of Defense called on Syrian youth to contribute to building a modern national army, noting that such participation represents "an honor and a national responsibility."

The ministry indicated that the army in its new form will be more just and professional, and that the role of youth is pivotal in shaping a secure and strong future for Syria.

The ministry's media relations official, Odai al-Abdullah, told Al Jazeera that the army's restructuring process is proceeding according to an integrated plan based on a comprehensive assessment of past and current challenges.

According to al-Abdullah, the ministry has reached advanced stages in organizing its structural and functional structure, with a focus on enhancing efficiency, professionalism, and defensive capabilities, in line with the requirements of the current phase.

"Precise Criteria"

He pointed out that the ministry adopts precise criteria for accepting volunteers, including physical fitness, mental competence, general conduct, and academic achievement, with special attention paid to attracting young people with technical and scientific specialties to enhance the army's cognitive and technological capabilities.

He added, "The ministry is currently focusing on modernizing the training system, introducing technology and digitization, and developing human and leadership competencies. The priorities for action are to enhance discipline, raise morale, and build a comprehensive national military doctrine."

He continued, "The army has proven its resilience in the face of difficult circumstances and is currently working to enhance its readiness through intensive training programs and the reorganization of forces. The curricula of military academies are being updated, specialized courses are being adopted to qualify officers, and merit-based promotion mechanisms are being adopted to ensure the production of military leaders with a strategic vision."

Al-Abdullah concluded by noting that the ministry is open to expanding its military relations with friendly and allied countries through agreements based on respect for national sovereignty and the achievement of common interests. Consultations are currently underway with strategic partners to enhance training and expertise exchange, in addition to technical and logistical support.

Restructuring the Syrian Army

Syrian Defense Minister Major General Engineer Marhaf Abu Qasra previously announced the completion of the process of integrating all military units within a unified institutional framework, under the supervision of the Syrian Ministry of Defense.

Abu Qasra emphasized that this significant achievement would not have been possible without the combined efforts of all parties involved. He praised the fruitful cooperation and high level of discipline demonstrated by the commanders and soldiers of the military units during the past phase, and their awareness of the importance of institutional work and the requirements of the next phase, he said.
