The Ministry of Finance lifted the precautionary freeze on the assets of a number of Syrian businessmen, which had been frozen during the years of Bashar al-Assad's regime, as part of what was then described as "preventive seizure" measures.
Among the names included in the decision are: Moataz al-Khayat, Ramez al-Khayat, Alaa al-Khayat, Mohammed al-Khayat, Abdul Qader al-Sankari, Khaled al-Mahamid, Raheef al-Hakimi, Ismail al-Saadi, Nazir Shahin, and members of his family.
The decision is part of a series of reviews of the seizure files that have affected hundreds of individuals and businessmen, amid calls to revoke the measures, which have been described as "malicious" and "political in nature."
