Two former ministers arrested on charges related to disappearance of detainees' children

A private source told Zaman al-Wasl that the two former ministers of social affairs and labor, Kinda al-Shammat and Rima al-Qadiri, have been arrested as part of a broader investigation into the "children of detainees" case. This case concerns children who disappeared while their families were detained under the former regime.

The two ministers are currently under investigation and detained at the Criminal Security headquarters in Damascus.

Kinda al-Shammat, 52, holds a PhD in private law from Damascus University. She was appointed Minister of Social Affairs and Labor in February 2013 and remained in office until August 20, 2015, when a decision was issued to relieve her of her duties and appoint Rima al-Qadiri as her successor.

Rima al-Qadiri, 62, was appointed Minister of Social Affairs and Labor in August 2015 and continued in her position until August 2020.

The source confirmed that the investigation is expanding and that the state is determined to uncover the fate of the children and hold those responsible for these violations accountable.
