Syrian security forces arrested Hanadi al-Khaimi, the former director of the Lahn al-Hayat orphanage on Thursday, following documented violations committed during her tenure between 2010 and 2023.
An informed source confirmed to Zaman al-Wasl that all violations against children at the orphanage, including identity changes, document forgery, and other serious violations, occurred while al-Khaimi was in charge of administrative management. Nada al-Ghabra and Lama Sawaf (also detained) oversaw care.
A document obtained by Zaman al-Wasl reveals al-Khaimi's signature approving the name change of one of the children at the orphanage. This incident opens the door to larger cases related to the alteration of minors' identities and the concealment of their official information.
The data indicates that all official documents during the aforementioned period were signed by al-Khaimi, reinforcing the hypothesis that she was directly responsible for the violations.
