Israeli airstrikes target Syrian forces in Sweida city

Israeli warplanes launched airstrikes on Syrian army positions and military vehicles in As-Suwayda Governorate, coinciding with the entry of Syrian army and Interior Ministry forces into the city to restore internal security after days of armed clashes between Druze and Bedouin groups.

The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) confirmed that several Israeli airstrikes targeted military positions in As-Suwayda. The Israeli military announced that the attack was carried out on the orders of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yisrael Katz, claiming that the bombing came after observing the movement of Syrian military convoys toward the city.

The Israeli military statement read: "Tanks, armored personnel carriers, rocket launchers, and main roads were targeted with the aim of obstructing the Syrian forces' access to the area."

In a significant development, Channel 14 reported a statement by a senior Israeli political source, who said: "The attacks in Syria are carried out in coordination with the Americans."

For his part, Syrian Defense Minister Marhaf Abu Qasra announced a complete ceasefire in the city of Sweida on Tuesday morning, following an agreement with the city's notables and dignitaries.

He emphasized that forces would only respond to sources of fire, directing the security of civilians, the protection of property, and the deployment of military police to control behavior and hold any violations accountable.

He added that the army would begin handing over neighborhoods within the city to the Internal Security Forces immediately after the completion of combing operations.
