The visit of a delegation of UN humanitarian organizations, accompanied by relief trucks, to As-Suwayda Governorate on Wednesday was nothing more than a field visit to assess the humanitarian situation. However, it was transformed by the efforts of some local authorities into a "historic event" promoted as a declaration of independence and a departure from state authority.
The scene began with the UN delegation's entry into the governorate on August 20, with the aim of examining the living and relief conditions. However, some voices were quick to promote a completely different narrative.
The delegation was portrayed as a "new international administration" for the region, and its visit was a prelude to "achieving independence," in an attempt to convince the public that "relief has arrived." This rhetoric, which spread among the people, was nothing more than a propaganda tool that relied on manipulating terminology and exaggerating the event.
Observers believe that what happened falls within the framework of "media warfare," where any external action, even if purely humanitarian, is used to fuel contradictory political narratives. The result, according to these people, is that the residents are caught between two lines: the reality of a limited humanitarian visit, and a fabricated narrative of independence that never happened.
