The Sons of al-Jazira Gathering issued a statement expressing its categorical rejection of the decision to postpone the People's Assembly elections in Hasakah Governorate, considering it not based on sufficient objective justifications and inconsistent with the principles of constitutional justice.
The Gathering explained in its statement that Hasakah Governorate suffers from complex security conditions due to the control of separatist militias supported by foreign powers over large parts of its territory. However, it stressed that this does not justify excluding the governorate's residents from their legislative rights, warning that the decision could set a "dangerous precedent" that would undermine the Syrian people's right to national participation.
The statement indicated that this postponement opens the way for de facto forces to exploit the absence of elections in the governorate to consolidate their separatist agenda, weakening the state's presence in one of Syria's most important governorates. The Gathering also held the separatist militias and the international powers supporting them responsible for obstructing the implementation of the March 10 agreement with the Syrian government.
The group warned that the continued policy of postponement and exclusion "will only lead to more tension and division, a loss of trust between citizens and the state, and a threat to the territorial integrity of Syria."
The statement concluded by emphasizing that any just and lasting political solution in Syria can only be achieved through the participation of all citizens and the non-marginalization of any component of the Syrian people. It considered that commitment to the constitutional electoral process represents a fundamental guarantee for the country's unity and political stability.
