Iraqi PM discusses reactivation of oil export pipeline through Syria

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani said that reactivating the Iraq-Syria export pipeline, which was discussed with Syria weeks ago, contributes to diversifying Iraq's export outlet options while providing flexibility in crude oil transportation capacity.

Al-Sudani's statement came during a speech he delivered at the Baghdad International Energy Forum on Saturday, according to a report published by the official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

Syrian Energy Minister Mohammed al-Bashir visited Baghdad last month and met with the Iraqi Prime Minister. The two sides discussed the possibility of reviving the Kirkuk-Banias oil pipeline, in light of the formation of a joint technical committee to study the pipeline's condition and options for its rehabilitation, as it is considered one of the important projects that would positively impact the economies of both countries.
