Despite this attack by Israel, Qatar says that it will continue along with Egypt and the US to play its role as a mediator to try to continue its efforts in pushing for peace in Gaza.
The Qatari prime minister also restated that the attack was a violation of the UN Charter, a flagrant violation of international norms and cannot go unpunished.
There is a lot of strong rhetoric, reassurance by Qatar that it’s going to continue to mediate despite this Israeli aggression.
But it doesn’t belie the fact that the pressure from Israel is still very much apparent with those statements over the last couple of days from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying that any Hamas member, any Hamas leader, is not safe anywhere and that it reserves the right to bring them to justice on its own. That would suggest that – despite these reassurances from the US that this kind of attack on Qatar will never happen again – Hamas leaders are not out of Israel’s crosshairs yet.
