The leader of Peshmerga elite forces, Sheikh Omar Babakai, has been killed due to the explosion near al-Yarubiya border crossing.

Fighters linked to the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) and Peshmerga have engaged in fierce clashes with ISIS jihadist in order to seize control of the oil-producing region northeast the war-torn country.

Meanwhile, ISIS wants to seize the border town of Kobani to consolidate a dramatic sweep across northern Iraq and Syria. The advances by the group, which espouses a rigidly conservative brand of Islam, has sent shockwaves through the Middle East, according to Reuters.
