The UAE-based Dana Gas announced on Wednesday the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Syrian Petroleum Company (SPSC) to assess opportunities for redeveloping existing gas fields in Syria that were damaged by the war.
Dana Gas, headquartered in Sharjah and listed on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange, signed the MoU with SPSC, represented by its CEO, Engineer Yousef Qablawi.
Under the MoU, Dana Gas will conduct a comprehensive technical evaluation of several gas fields in central Syria, including the Abu Rabah field, one of the largest gas fields discovered in the country.
The Emirati company added that it will propose a comprehensive development plan to its Syrian counterpart, "provided the evaluation is successful and both parties reach a final agreement to implement the project."
It is worth noting that the Zaman al-Wasl newspaper had previously published information about the imminent signing with Dana Gas, which indicated a significant increase in Syrian gas production if the project is implemented.
