Syria's President Chairs Meeting of Newly Formed Higher Education Council

DAMASCUS – Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa chaired a meeting of the Supreme Council for Education and Teaching on Saturday to discuss the latest developments in the country's education sector across all levels, with a primary focus on modernizing the national curriculum.

According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the meeting, held at the General Secretariat of the Presidency in Damascus, emphasized the importance of updating educational curricula according to clear strategic plans and scientific visions that align with modern knowledge and advancements.

The attendees also addressed critical issues such as the rehabilitation and reconstruction of damaged schools and the improvement of teachers' conditions, aiming to positively impact the overall educational process.

This session follows President al-Sharaa's issuance of Legislative Decree No. 148 on August 25, which formally established the Supreme Council for Education and Teaching. The Council's mandate is to approve modern and advanced educational curricula that keep pace with scientific and technological developments. It is tasked with studying, reviewing, and developing educational content to ensure it aligns with national values, cultural identity, and contemporary scientific progress.
