The Internal Security Command in Homs has announced an extension of the curfew imposed on several neighborhoods of the city, now effective until 5:00 PM on Monday.
The list of affected neighborhoods includes: Al-Abbasiyah, Al-Armen, Al-Muhajireen, Al-Zahra, Al-Nuzha, Akrama, Al-Nazihin, Ashira, and the Al-Zaydal neighborhood (where the crime occurred), as well as Karm al-Zaytoun, Karm al-Lawz, Al-Wuroud, and the Police Apartments area.
In its statement, the Command urged residents of these areas to "comply with the decision for their own safety and to ensure the completion of ongoing field procedures."
The decision to extend the curfew comes in the wake of a brutal crime on Sunday morning, where a man and his wife were found murdered inside their home in the town of Al-Zaydal in the Homs countryside. Graffiti of a sectarian nature was found at the crime scene, sparking tension and alarm in this ethnically and religiously diverse area.
In response to the incident, security forces immediately imposed a temporary curfew in parts of the city and significantly reinforced their presence in the mentioned neighborhoods. According to security sources, these measures aim to prevent any rash retaliatory actions or attempts by any party to exploit the heinous crime to incite sectarian strife or disrupt the stability and security of the region.
These swift and decisive measures underscore the authorities' commitment to containing the situation and preventing any potential escalation. This comes at a time when the country is still working to restore stability across its regions after years of conflict.
