US President Donald Trump said that Syria has made significant progress in a short period, expressing his strong confidence in President Ahmed al-Sharaa.
This came in remarks to reporters at the White House on Tuesday, in response to a question about developments in Syria.
Trump added: "I think Syria has made tremendous progress in a short period. And the new leader of Syria (Ahmed al-Sharaa) was here three weeks ago. He is really excited about reforming his country and bringing the people together there."
He continued: "This is not easy at all. There are problems that have been going on for hundreds of years, but I think he will succeed. I have great confidence in him."
Trump held a closed-door meeting with al-Sharaa at the White House on November 10, where they discussed several issues, including lifting sanctions on Syria and regional matters.
This meeting at the White House was the first of its kind with a Syrian president.
