Makhous responds to plea by immigrants families trapped in Cyprus

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Syrian Opposition's Coalition envoy to Paris said the 340-Syrian-refugee rescued off Cyprus on Sep.23 to be transported into Makeshift camp amid Cypriot pledges to deal with them according to the international laws.

Monzer Makhous said, in statement submitted to Zaman al-Wasl, that Cyprus Ambassador to Paris has assured him that Cypriot government had dealt with Syrian migrants according to European standards and international regulations for fundamental rights.

Makhous has responded to plea by Families of the immigrants to help their trapped sons.

Syrian refugees were rescued when the boat they were in sent a distress signal while off the coast of Cyprus. The cruise ship ‘Salamis Philoxenia’ responded to the Mayday and rescued everyone on board, according to Cyprus Mail.

Cypriot Justice Minister Ionas Nicolaou said two weeks ago the Syrian refugees will be relocated to an area near Kofinou village.

The Cyprus office of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) issued a statement congratulating the Cypriot government for their “swift and commendable rescue operation”, adding that it goes show “the things we can accomplish when the government works together with NGOs and the private sector in humanitarian issues,”accoring to Cyprus Mail.

The U.N. says more than 190,000 people have been killed since the start of Syria's uprising against President Bashar Assad in March 2011.
