Syrian security forces neutralize pro-Assad fighters in Syrian coast

The head of Internal Security in Latakia Governorate, Brigadier General Abdul Aziz Hilal al-Ahmad, announced that special operations units of the Internal Security Command, in coordination with the Counter-Terrorism Branch and a unit of the Syrian Army, carried out a targeted security operation this morning in the Jableh countryside. The operation targeted an armed group affiliated with what is known as the "Jawad Brigades."

Al-Ahmad explained, in a statement carried by the Ministry of Interior, that the group was involved in assassinations and bombings using improvised explosive devices (IEDs), in addition to targeting Internal Security and Army positions. They were also preparing to carry out attacks that would threaten civilian security, including planning to target gatherings during New Year's celebrations.

He indicated that the operation followed meticulous surveillance and monitoring. The area and the house where the group was holed up were surrounded, and civilians were evacuated and secured outside the operation's perimeter to ensure their safety. He added that despite repeated calls for the militants to surrender, they refused, leading to clashes that lasted for approximately one hour.

The operation resulted in the arrest of one cell member and the killing of three others, while four members of the security forces sustained minor injuries.

Al-Ahmad noted that security units seized explosive devices, various weapons and ammunition, and military equipment during the operation. The arrested individual was transferred to the Counter-Terrorism Department for further investigation before being referred to the competent judicial authorities.

The Latakia Internal Security Chief affirmed that efforts are ongoing to dismantle the cell and prevent any further expansion of its activities. He emphasized that security forces are continuing to pursue outlaw groups to ensure the protection of citizens and enhance security and stability in the province.
