Six people were killed and 21 injured in an initial toll from an explosion at the Imam Ali Bin Abi Talib Mosque in the Wadi al-Dahab neighborhood of Homs, the state-run news agency reported
The al-Ekhbariah TV channel reported that the explosion was caused by improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted in a corner of the mosque, where worshippers were gathered.
The terrorist attack occurred during Friday prayers at the Imam Ali Ibn Abi Talib Mosque in a predominantly Alawite neighborhood. This attack appears to be an escalation aimed at sowing further discord and deepening societal divisions, following intensified attempts by ISIS and supporters of the former Syrian regime to incite violence.
The Syrian Interior Ministry had announced the neutralization and arrest of senior ISIS leaders in the Damascus suburbs during the week.
