SDF militia targets security checkpoint in Aleppo, one wounded

The Kurdish-led SDF militia targeted an Internal Security Forces checkpoint at the Shihhan roundabout north of Aleppo city this evening, wounding one of its members.

The head of Internal Security in Aleppo province, Colonel Muhammad Abdul Ghani, told SANA news agency: “In yet another violation of the agreements, SDF snipers deployed in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods of Aleppo city targeted an Interior Ministry checkpoint while its personnel were carrying out their duties of regulating the movement of civilians.”

Abdul Ghani added: “This attack resulted in the wounding of one of our personnel, who was immediately given first aid and transferred to a medical center for treatment. The sources of fire were dealt with and silenced according to established procedures.”

He warned civilians to stay away from areas of tension for their own safety and urged them to adhere to instructions issued by official authorities.

While the Syrian state continues its efforts to maintain calm and protect civilians, the Ministry of Interior affirms that the SDF's continued violations of the ceasefire and attacks on security points will be met with the necessary measures, and it will bear full responsibility for any escalation or repercussions that may result from these violations.

For its part, the Aleppo Media Directorate stated that "the SDF's actions in recent times, its refusal to implement the terms of the March 10th agreement, and its ongoing provocations against security and military forces reveal its disregard for the country's fate and its desire to drag the region into a conflict in which it will be the loser, despite all the Syrian state's attempts to implement the agreement without any clashes, as previously stated by the Ministries of Interior and Defense."

The Directorate added in its statement: "It has become clear and unequivocal to the Syrian people through these violations that the SDF does not want this agreement to be implemented, thus opposing the desire of the entire Syrian people for a unified Syria that enjoys peace, prosperity, and stability."

The SDF had attacked with mortar shells last Monday. Rocket launchers and heavy machine guns were used against several neighborhoods in the city of Aleppo, resulting in the death of 4 civilians and the injury of 15 others, while the Internal Security Forces worked to evacuate civilians and ensure their safety after those attacks.
