Aleppo: New deadline for civilians to leave Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh

The Aleppo Governorate announced the reopening of the Al-Awarid and Al-Zuhour Street humanitarian corridors to facilitate the evacuation of residents wishing to leave the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods. The corridors will be open from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, in coordination with the Syrian Arab Army.

In a statement released today, the Governorate said: “We received appeals from families trapped inside the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods after the SDF prevented many residents from leaving yesterday and attempted to use them as human shields to continue its operations against the army.”

The statement continued: “Following coordination with the Syrian Arab Army, arrangements have been made to reopen two humanitarian corridors to facilitate the evacuation of civilians to safe areas in Aleppo.”

The statement concluded: “We are announcing a new period for residents wishing to leave the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods for safe areas via the Al-Awarid and Al-Zuhour Street corridors, which are well-known to residents of the area. The evacuation process will last three hours, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.”

The Syrian Arab Army's Operations Command warned the SDF against targeting civilians attempting to leave the Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafieh, and Bani Zeid neighborhoods through the corridors announced by the governorate.

The Command confirmed to SANA that the army is working to secure the safety of civilians fleeing the SDF's brutality within these neighborhoods.

The SDF continues to target Aleppo neighborhoods, shelling the Sheikh Taha neighborhood with artillery this morning and the Lairamoun and Shihane roundabout areas with heavy machine guns.

Since last Tuesday, the SDF has escalated its attacks on Syrian Arab Army positions surrounding the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, targeting homes, hospitals, and infrastructure in several Aleppo districts. These attacks have resulted in the death of one Syrian Arab Army soldier, the killing of five civilians, and injuries to 30 others. The Aleppo Internal Medicine Hospital has been put out of service, and homes and property have suffered material damage, prompting a large-scale displacement of residents from the area.

To protect civilians, the Syrian Arab Army is responding to the sources of fire from which the SDF launches shells and suicide drones.

The army announced yesterday the opening of the Al-Awarid and Al-Zuhour Street crossings to facilitate the exit of residents wishing to leave Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh. However, the SDF targeted army positions and civilians attempting to leave with gunfire and mortar shells.

The SDF also targeted Internal Security Forces with artillery fire near the Shihane roundabout while they were assisting residents who had left, resulting in injuries to three officers.

The Syrian government emphasizes that the measures taken in the vicinity of the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods are solely aimed at maintaining security, with a full commitment to protecting civilians, ensuring their safety, and safeguarding their property.

The government reiterates its demand for the withdrawal of armed groups from Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh and calls for the complete neutrality of civilians in any political or media conflicts. It affirms that any approach to the situation in Aleppo must be based on the principle of state sovereignty and territorial integrity, guaranteeing the security and dignity of all citizens without exception.
