Syria restores power link to Tishreen Dam after year-long outage

Syria has restored the electrical connection to the Tishreen Dam after about a year offline, allowing its turbines to resume electricity generation, the Energy Ministry said on Saturday.

In a statement published on Telegram, the ministry said maintenance work had been completed on the power transmission line linking the dam to the al-Babiri substation in eastern Aleppo. The repairs were carried out by state electricity authorities.

The dam has been reconnected to Syria’s national power grid for the first time in a year, providing partial operational stability. Its turbines are now able to generate electricity in line with technical operating plans, taking into account water inflows and reservoir levels. The ministry said the move is expected to improve electricity supply stability.

The restoration comes a week after the Syrian government regained control of the dam following an agreement with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). Under the deal, the SDF handed over border crossings, oil and gas fields, and other key infrastructure in the area to the government.
