People’s Assembly elections in Raqqa to be held once security stabilizes

Syria’s Higher Committee for People’s Assembly Elections said on Monday that preparations are under way to hold elections in Raqqa province once the security situation stabilizes.

Committee spokesperson Nawar Najmeh told SANA that People’s Assembly elections would also be held in Hasakah province and Ain al-Arab area once security conditions allow.

Voting for the People’s Assembly began on Oct. 5 in most provinces, marking the first elections to choose members of the legislature since liberating the country.

The committee conducted elections at a later date in some areas of Raqqa and Hasakah, including Ma’dan, Ras al-Ayn and Tal Abyad, while seats in the remaining districts of the two provinces, as well as all districts in Sweida, remained vacant until conditions permit elections to be held.
