Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani, affirmed Thursday that the reopening of the Syrian Consulate in the German city of Bonn represents a significant milestone in Syrian diplomatic efforts and reflects the Syrian State’s vision of strengthening its international presence and serving its citizens abroad.
“Syrian-German relations have deep cultural and humanitarian roots and have gained exceptional momentum since the fall of the ousted regime,” Al-Shaibani said during the opening ceremony.
He noted Germany’s significant humanitarian role in hosting Syrians and highlighted the success stories of Syrian expatriates, including doctors, engineers, artists and workers who have been excellent ambassadors for their homeland.
The Minister went on to say that the opening of the consulate is part of a fundamental shift in the Syrian diplomacy, as it enjoys a direct support from President Ahmad al-Sharaa who has given special attention to the reactivation of diplomatic missions and the establishment of new consulates, based on his firm belief that the dignity of Syrian citizens and serving them abroad is an integral part of national sovereignty.
Minister al-Shaibani explained that the opening of Bonn consulate is part of a strategic vision aimed at bringing about a qualitative step in the consular work, moving from traditional methods to a modern, institutional system that prioritizes the dignity and time of citizens and restructures services to be more accessible and efficient.
The Minister concluded by thanking the German federal authorities, the state government, and the city of Bonn for their cooperation and facilitation of the consulate’s opening procedures.
He also thanked the diplomatic and technical team that worked on completing the project, emphasizing that the consulate’s doors will remain open to serve Syrians at all times.
Al-Shaibani receives delegation from the German Foreign Ministry and the Saudi Embassy in Germany
Later, the Foreign Minister received a delegation from the German Foreign Ministry and the Saudi Embassy in Germany at the headquarters of the Consulate General of the Syrian Arab Republic in Bonn, who congratulated him on the opening event.
