Syrian Army takes control of al-Shaddadi base in Hasakah after U.S. coordination

The Syrian Arab Army has assumed control of the al-Shaddadi military base in Hasakah province, northeastern Syria, following coordination with U.S. officials, the Defense Ministry’s media department said.

The media department told SANA that the base was handed over to the Syrian Army after completing arrangements with U.S. authorities.

The development comes days after the ministry announced that Syrian forces had taken control of the al-Tanf military base from U.S. troops. On February 12, the Defense Ministry said the handover of al-Tanf followed coordination between Syrian and U.S. officials, after which Syrian army units secured the facility and its perimeter.

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed its withdrawal from al-Tanf base in southeastern Syria after nearly a decade, adding that U.S. forces remain prepared to respond to any ISIS threats in the region as they support partner-led efforts to prevent the group’s resurgence.
