Syrian Defense Ministry says journalists wounded in mine blast in Latakia

The Syrian Ministry of Defense said two journalists and a soldier were wounded when a landmine exploded during mine-clearing operations in the countryside of Latakia province on Tuesday.

SANA reporter Hasan Hashim and Anadolu Agency contributor Şevket Akça were injured while covering engineering units clearing mines in the town of Salma, according to a statement from the ministry’s Media and Communications Directorate. A Syrian soldier was also wounded in the blast.

The ministry said the incident underscores the risks faced by journalists reporting from conflict-affected areas and highlighted ongoing efforts to remove unexploded ordnance left from years of war.

The ministry expressed appreciation for journalists covering the operations and wished the injured a full and speedy recovery. It said measures would be taken to reduce risks during media coverage of military activities.
