The Internal Security Forces in Lattakia carried out a dual operation in Bait Alouni and Bisniya in the Jableh countryside, targeting a main stronghold of the so-called “Saraya Al-Jawad” militia, the Interior Ministry said.
In a statement published on the Ministry’s official Telegram channel, Brig. Gen. Abdulaziz al-Ahmad said the hour-long operation followed several days of precise monitoring. The clash resulted in the killing of the militia leader in the coastal region, criminal Bashar Abdullah Abu Rukkia, along with two senior commanders, and the arrest of six other members, he said. A weapons and explosives depot belonging to the group was also destroyed, he added.
One member of the Special Tasks Unit of the Internal Security Forces was martyred and another was injured, he said.
The commander noted that the operation is part of ongoing security measures to counter terrorist cells seeking to undermine security and stability.
Al-Ahmad stressed that the forces continue their efforts to eliminate criminal elements, ensure citizens’ safety, and maintain stability across the governorate. He affirmed their determination to eliminate terrorist groups and anyone threatening national security.
