Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said Tuesday that senior Iranian officials, including Ali Larijani, were killed in Israeli airstrikes carried out overnight.
In a video statement reported by AFP, Katz said he had been informed by the military chief of staff that Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, and Basij commander Gholamreza Soleimani were killed in the strikes.
There was no immediate confirmation from Iranian authorities.
The reported killings come amid escalating hostilities between Israel and Iran. Since late February, the United States and Israel have been launching missile and drone strikes targeting sites in Iran. Tehran responded with missile and drone attacks.
