Residents and activists of the Kurdish neighborhood of Rukn al-Din in Damascus issued a strongly worded statement condemning the desecration of the Syrian national flag in the city of Ain al-Arab (Kobani), describing the act as a "blatant attack" on the symbol of the state's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The statement emphasized that the Syrian flag represents the dignity and unity of all Syrians, regardless of their background, stressing that any attack on it is a direct assault on the social fabric of Syria and cannot be justified or accepted under any pretext.
The statement continued: "This act does not represent the Kurdish people of Syria, who have always been and remain an integral and inseparable part of the national identity. Rather, it is an isolated incident serving agendas that seek to incite sedition and destabilize the country."
Calls for Accountability and Vigilance: The signatories of the statement issued several key demands, most notably:
- Legal Accountability: Demanding that the relevant authorities take immediate action to uncover the circumstances of the incident and hold the perpetrators and those behind them accountable.
- Preserving the State's Prestige: Emphasizing that safeguarding the symbols of the state is a national duty that brooks no compromise.
- National Unity: Calling for adherence to unity and standing together against attempts to incite and sow discord.
Signatories: The statement was signed by a group of civil and social entities in the Rukn al-Din neighborhood, expressing a unified collective stance. These entities are:
• The Rukn al-Din Neighborhood Coordination Committee of the Syrian Revolution in Damascus.
• The neighborhood committees of Asad al-Din, al-Ayyubiyah, al-Naqshbandi, and al-Fayha.
• The Rukn al-Din Neighborhood Secretariat and its volunteer team.
