Head of the Syrian General Authority for Land and Maritime Ports Qutaiba Badawi, and Head of the Iraqi Border Ports Authority Omar al-Waeli, inaugurated the al-Tanf–al-Waleed border crossing on Thursday, in a step aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and activating trade transit and cargo movement between the two countries.
The two sides conducted a joint field tour inside the crossing, reviewing the readiness of infrastructure and operational procedures, as well as monitoring the flow of fuel tanker convoys and transit trucks, reflecting the launch of a new phase of coordinated field cooperation between the relevant authorities in Syria and Iraq.
Both sides emphasized the importance of this vital crossing in supporting trade exchange and ensuring the smooth flow of goods and energy supplies, stressing continued coordination to develop operational mechanisms and overcome any obstacles facing transport movement, in a way that enhances economic integration between the two countries and improves the efficiency of regional land corridors.
The opening of al-Tanf–al-Waleed crossing represents a strategic step within efforts to activate border crossings and upgrade their readiness, in line with current requirements, while reinforcing Syria’s role as a key transit hub for regional trade routes.
