Dutch court demands 30-year impressment for former militia’s Qatrib

Netherlands Public Prosecution Service demanded the maximum penalty for Rafiq al-Qatrib, a leader in the so-called National Defense Forces militia during the era of the deposed regime, at the conclusion of its hearings before the Hague court in a case related to crimes committed against civilians in Syria.

The prosecution is seeking a 30-year, unconditional prison sentence.

SANA correspondent said the Netherlands Public Prosecution Service has also called on the court to respond to the demands of the victims in the case and grant them financial compensation.

The conclusion was made during the court’s closing hearing presented on April 22, which emphasized the seriousness of the acts attributed to the criminal, considering them as crimes against humanity.
