President al-Sharaa, UAE President discuss ties, regional issues

President Ahmad al-Sharaa met in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, where the two sides discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani and UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, along with senior officials from both sides.

Discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation, particularly in economic partnerships and development efforts, in a way that serves mutual interests and supports stability and prosperity in the region.

The two sides also addressed regional security developments and challenges, stressing the importance of coordinating efforts to preserve regional stability.

President al-Sharaa reaffirmed Syria’s solidarity with the United Arab Emirates and stressed the need to respect state sovereignty and reject actions that threaten security and stability, particularly in light of recent Iranian attacks in the region.

The visit comes as part of President al-Sharaa’s Gulf tour, which also included stops in Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

Later, President Ahmad al-Sharaa said in a post on X that he met with His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, noting that prospects for joint work had expanded and opportunities for cooperation between the two countries had grown through broader economic partnerships and support for development efforts.

He added that the two sides discussed regional and international issues of mutual interest, reaffirming Syria’s support for the United Arab Emirates in safeguarding its security and stability.

President al-Sharaa arrived in Abu Dhabi earlier on Wednesday as part of a Gulf tour that began on Tuesday and also included visits to Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
