New York, May 12 (SANA) Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ibrahim Olabi, called Tuesday for the return of Syrian refugees to be voluntary, safe, and dignified, stressing that international support for Syria‘s recovery — particularly the rebuilding of infrastructure and essential services — is the essential precondition for achieving this.
Speaking at the Second International Migration Review Forum (IMRF), Olabi said more than one million refugees have already returned to Syria since its liberation from the deposed regime, and that sustaining this momentum requires continued international engagement.
He noted that the 2011 revolution forced millions of Syrians to flee a criminal regime, and that those who settled abroad have since contributed positively to their host societies. He called on Syrians expatriates to now contribute to rebuilding their homeland, describing the current period as a historic opportunity that does not come often in the life of nations.
