President Al-Sharaa transfers appointment powers at Syrian Petroleum to Directors Board

Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa ratified the new internal regulations of the Syrian Petroleum Company. The regulations include significant amendments transferring the authority for appointments and dismissals from the CEO to the company's board of directors as a whole.

This move significantly reduces the powers of the current CEO, Engineer Youssef Qablawi, who previously held considerable authority over human resources and leadership positions within the company.

The new amendments aim to establish a system of collective management and prevent unilateral decision-making regarding the organizational structure in the energy sector.

These amendments coincide with leaks from within the company indicating a comprehensive list of changes to be announced next week. The anticipated measures will include restructuring various administrative and technical departments.

This legal shift means that any decision concerning the removal or appointment of department heads will require the approval of a majority of the board members, effectively ending the era of individual decision-making at one of Syria's most important economic institutions.
