Syria’s First Lady attends launch of national cervical cancer prevention program

Syria’s First Lady Latifa al-Droubi, wife of President Ahmad al-Sharaa, attended the launch ceremony of Syria’s National Cervical Cancer Prevention Program, an initiative aimed at expanding early detection and preventive healthcare services for women.

The program was launched by Hand in Hand for Aid and Development (HIHFAD) under the patronage and supervision of the Ministry of Health and Idlib Health Directorate, in cooperation with the David Nott Foundation.

The event marked the official start of early screening and preventive care services designed to improve women’s health and strengthen efforts to detect cervical cancer at an early stage.

Organizers described the initiative as an important milestone in enhancing women’s healthcare in Syria through the introduction of a diagnostic service that was previously unavailable.

The program will initially be launched at a Ministry of Health-affiliated healthcare facility in the city of Idlib, with the aim of expanding access to preventive and diagnostic services for women.
