Foreign Ministry confirms documents tampered with and hacked as Zaman al-Wasl reported

In a statement confirming the accuracy of Zaman al-Wasl's exclusive report on the authenticity of the leaked documents attributed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Foreign Ministry revealed the facts about the manipulation of the documents, thus confirming what the newspaper had previously published.

Official Confirmation of Document Manipulation

A statement issued by the Media and Communication Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a copy of which was received by Zaman al-Wasl, reads as follows:

• From the outset, the relevant departments within the Ministry initiated the necessary procedures to verify and investigate the leaked documents and correspondence attributed to it, in accordance with established procedures and standards.

• The Ministry began coordinating with the relevant technical departments and security agencies to conduct a comprehensive investigation to determine the source, mechanism, and scope of the leak, in preparation for taking appropriate legal and judicial measures to address the incident, contain its repercussions, and hold accountable all those found to be involved, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Assurances Regarding Continued Operations

The Ministry affirmed that its work, duties, and consular and diplomatic services are continuing normally, and that it will take all necessary measures to protect information security, safeguard official documents, and preserve the interests of the state and its institutions, while continuing to keep the public informed of relevant developments through official channels.

Warning Against Digital Misinformation

The statement stressed the importance of relying on official sources for information and cautioned against the fact that some circulating materials have been digitally manipulated or altered, which could mislead the public or present an inaccurate picture of events.

Conforms to Zaman al-Wasl's Investigation

Zaman al-Wasl had previously confirmed in its investigation that the circulating documents are inaccurate, with a large portion originating from previous leaks and fabricated information. The remaining portion consists of administrative files seized from the offices of the Assad regime after its fall, which hold no real intelligence or diplomatic value.

This agreement between what the newspaper revealed and the official statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirms that there are external parties working systematically to undermine the credibility of Syrian government documents and disrupt the transitional phase, coinciding with Zaman al-Wasl’s exposure of the disinformation networks loyal to Maher al-Assad, led by Khaled Qaddour from Dubai.
