Damascus, Aug. 4 (SANA) Syria’s Al-Tanf border crossing with Iraq has recorded the passage of approximately 155,000 truck and fuel tanker drivers in both directions since reopening in early April, as overland transport and transit activity between Syria and neighboring countries continues to expand.
The crossing has witnessed steadily increasing traffic alongside the growth of freight and transit operations, supported by procedures introduced to organize vehicle movement and facilitate border and customs processes.
The General Authority for Land and Sea Ports and Customs said the figures reflect increased operational activity at Al-Tanf, higher cargo and transit flows, and the effectiveness of measures implemented to manage the movement of trucks and goods.
The authority noted that continuous services provided by border personnel have contributed to facilitating vehicle movement and improving the completion of customs and border formalities.
Al-Tanf serves as a key corridor for regional and international transit, enabling the movement of trucks, fuel tankers and commercial goods between Syria, Iraq and other countries in the region.
The crossing plays an important role in supporting overland transport, strengthening trade and logistics connections, and facilitating commercial exchange through regional routes.
The increase in traffic coincides with continued rehabilitation and infrastructure development works carried out by the General Authority for Land and Sea Ports and Customs at the crossing.
The projects aim to enhance operational readiness, expand capacity and improve services provided to the transport and logistics sectors, in response to growing demand for transit movement.
