Transitional Justice Commission calls on victims of Ibrahim Hawija to give testimonies

The Director of the Accounting Department at the National Commission for Transitional Justice, Radif Mustafa, called on victims and those affected to come forward with testimonies and claims in the case of Major General Ibrahim Hawija, the former head of the Air Force Intelligence branch under the ousted regime.

Mustafa confirmed that Hawija is accused of involvement in grave violations amounting to crimes against humanity, war crimes, and genocide, noting that he is currently detained and in the custody of the courts specializing in transitional justice cases.

He stressed the importance of the participation of victims and their families in the accountability process, uncovering the truth, and achieving reparations, emphasizing that the Commission and the relevant judicial departments in the governorates are prepared to receive testimonies and claims related to the case.

Internal security forces in the city of Jableh arrested Ibrahim Hawija on March 6, 2025. He is accused of involvement in hundreds of crimes and assassinations during the era of Hafez al-Assad, including overseeing the assassination of Lebanese leader Kamal Jumblatt, founder of the Progressive Socialist Party.
