The CEO of the Syrian Petroleum Company, Engineer Youssef Qablawi, inaugurated the operation of an early gas production and processing unit at the Al-Tabiyah/Conoco field in Deir ez-Zor on Tuesday, following the completion of its rehabilitation by the company's engineers and technicians in cooperation with local companies.
The work included the rehabilitation of a gas production and processing station using equipment from the former Al-Tabiyah plant. This allows for the separation of water and gas condensates, and the drying of the gas, making it ready for pumping to facilities in the central region of Homs Governorate for further processing.
Concurrently with the station's equipment rehabilitation, the gas pipeline extending from the Al-Tabiyah plant towards Palmyra was also rehabilitated. The missing section, approximately 5 kilometers long and 18 inches in diameter, was completed, and the sectional valves were repaired, bringing the pipeline ready for gas transport.
The rehabilitation work relied largely on the company's existing resources and materials, both from the facility itself and other affiliated facilities, in addition to utilizing local companies. This demonstrates the ability of national personnel to repurpose company assets and return them to service.
The unit is scheduled to begin production from two of the field's five wells while repairs to the remaining wells are completed. Once all wells are rehabilitated, the system is expected to contribute between 1 and 1.5 million cubic meters of gas per day to the gas network.
The commissioning of this unit represents a first step in restoring the region's gas fields to service after a prolonged shutdown due to damage. The company is working to complete the rehabilitation of an integrated production and processing system in the next phase.
