Idlib, Sept. 9 (SANA) The death toll from an explosion at a temporary weapons and war remnants storage facility near Sarmada in northern Idlib countryside rose to 14 on Wednesday, with 11 others injured, according to a preliminary toll.
Sobhi Assaf, director of the media office at the Idlib Health Directorate, told SANA that the injuries ranged from minor to moderate, warning that the casualty toll could rise.
Emergency and ambulance referral teams, alongside Civil Defense crews, remain at the scene to prevent further explosions and ensure the safety of residents, Assaf said.
Osama al-Mousa, operations’ commander for the Dana area at the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management, said Civil Defense teams were continuing to extinguish fires and secure unexploded ordnance at the site.
The teams are also continuing operations to recover bodies and evacuate the injured from the blast site, al-Mousa added.
