Syrian security arrested on Monday Ahmed Khalif al-Ahmad—the former head of the Information Section at the State Security Branch in Deir ez-Zor Governorate during the era of the ousted regime—following a security operation and surveillance of his movements.
The Internal Security Forces stated that preliminary investigations revealed al-Ahmad had held this security position for 20 years, playing a prominent role in the branch alongside its then-chief, Da'as Da'as.
They added that the investigation and security records indicated the detainee’s involvement in overseeing operations to pursue individuals and in compiling security reports that led to the arrest of numerous citizens; some of these detainees were subsequently killed within the ousted regime's prisons and detention centers.
The Internal Security Forces noted that investigations with the detainee are ongoing to complete legal procedures, in preparation for referring him to the competent judicial authorities.
