Homs, Sept. 30 (SANA) The Syrian Petroleum Company inaugurated Tuesday the second phase of the second section of the Arab Gas Pipeline project and reopened its National Training Center in Furqlus, eastern Homs countryside.
The inauguration was attended by Homs Governor Murhaf al-Naasan and Syrian Petroleum Company CEO Youssef Qablawi.
The project is intended to strengthen links between Syria’s gas network, production sources and consumption centers, while improving the skills of personnel working in the oil and gas sector.
Final link of the Arab Gas Pipeline
Hisham al-Saleh, the company’s deputy CEO for the gas sector, told SANA that the completed section represents the final link of the Arab Gas Pipeline connecting Jordan and Türkiye through Syria.
He said the project adds a 186-kilometer pipeline to about 380 kilometers of existing lines, bringing the total length of the connected network to around 566 kilometers.
The line has a transmission capacity of up to 11 million cubic meters of gas per day, al-Saleh said.
The project includes the installation of three compressors in Furqlus, allowing gas to be transported in both directions between Türkiye and Jordan.
Al-Saleh said the project adds an estimated 8 million cubic meters of storage capacity to the Syrian gas network, providing greater flexibility in managing gas production and use.
He said the expanded network strengthens links between production areas and consumption centers, particularly industrial cities and electricity generation plants.
The network connected to the project currently links Syria with Lebanon, Jordan and Türkiye, supporting Syria’s role as a regional transit route for gas and energy, according to al-Saleh.
National Training Center reopens
Al-Saleh said the Syrian Petroleum Company’s National Training Center at the Central Region Fields Directorate reopened Tuesday after a suspension of about 12 years.
The facility’s equipment, training halls and workshops have been rehabilitated.
The center is expected to begin courses in the coming days for recent graduates, along with specialized programs for Syrian Petroleum Company employees and personnel working in related sectors.
Training center equipped for practical instruction
National Training Center Director Hussam Mansour said the facility is a service institution affiliated with the Syrian Petroleum Company and is intended to train personnel and improve professional skills in line with international standards.
The center includes 10 classrooms for theoretical instruction, along with a building containing workshops and practical training facilities related to oil and gas operations.
It also includes a gas plant simulator that allows trainees to carry out operations similar to those performed at gas processing facilities.
Mansour said work is underway to develop the center into a core training facility for the Syrian Petroleum Company by adding a drilling-rig simulator and an oil-refinery simulator.
The latest phase of the Arab Gas Pipeline project adds capacity to Syria’s gas transmission system by completing links between sections of the pipeline and enabling gas flows in both directions.
The project is intended to support the country’s energy system and major consumption centers.
Representatives of the energy ministries of Syria, Jordan and Lebanon discussed implementation measures for activating the Arab Gas Pipeline during a videoconference on April 24, as well as plans to supply Lebanon with its energy needs. SANA reported at the time that the meeting reviewed final timelines for trial pumping and technical readiness along the route from the Syrian-Jordanian border toward Lebanon.
