Damascus (Zaman Al Wasl)- Assassinations have increased recently in Damascus southern countryside, especially in the Palestinian Yarmouk refugee camp, where members of fighting battalions are the most targeted, besides some activists.

“Many leaders of the fighting battalions were assassinated, despite the killer still unknown, but most suspicions point to the Islamic State ‘ISIS’ or less likely Nusra Front “ an activist talked on condition of anonymity.

He added that most activists in Yarmouk camp were under threat of assassination, so they feared of commenting on the matter.

The activist explained that “ISIS” has the most benefits of the assassinations, as that helped it in getting rid of battalions’ leaders, and caused condition of chaos and mistrust among the, beside threatening activists and close their mothes. “Not necessarily for the killing to be done by ISIS’s members, as some hired-killers can do the job for amount of money”

Assassination spread to other areas near Yarmouk camp like Yelda, Bait Sahm and Babila, which have relatively better security conditions.

In the end most activists agree on the fact that regime as well benefited from those assassinations and most likely it has indirect effects.

They added that the bad security situation in Yarmouk would not have reached to that level if the armed oppositions and battalions had been more cooperative and had worked together.
