Islamist rebels make gains in Quneitra province

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Violent clashes on Tuesday took place between Syrian regime forces and the Islamic battalions in Quneitra province amid reports of slow advances by the rebels, a monitoring group said.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said heavy fighting took place in the vicinity of al- Baath city and town of Khan Arnabeh, as rebels want to control the main supply route between Quneitra and the capital.

The fighters, who have vowed to liberate Quneitra, have controlled many villages in the area.

Meanwhile, Bashar al-Assad’s forces have targeted by barrel bombs and missiles towns of Briqa, Mashara and al- Mabedeyyi, no casualties reported according to the Observatory.

Three months ago, al-Qaeda's Syria wing Nusra Front and other Islamist fighters seized control of Quneitra border crossing on the line dividing Syria from the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
