Reporting by Mamoun Abu Mohamed; Translation by Yusra Ahmed

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Houses and properties of displaced people of Baba Amr  neighborhood of war-torn city of Homs have been distributed on regime army officers, Local activists said.

Sources reported to Zaman al-Wasl that dozens of military officers of different ranks have recently occupied houses of displaced people who left the area after Baba Amr’s siege and heavy shelling in 2012.

Later, the Syrian regime prevented people from returning to their houses since then, under claim of cleaning the region from terrorism.

“I was informed that my house I had put all I owned to build, was occupied by an Major in the Syrian Army” Abo Wasim, a refugee in Jordan, told Zaman al-Wasl painfully and added that he cannot go back to his house now because he wanted to protect his children and save his life.

Sources mentioned that many barriers were re-distributed around Baba Amr, Inshaat and Forqan Mosque, thinking that regime wanted to reassure the military officers and their family who occupied others’ house.

A resident in area detailed the process of seizing houses: “some residents help in facilitating the seizing process, they ask for empty houses to rent, when they make sure that a house is empty, they inform military officers to come and furnish the house and live in.”
