After counting nearly 95 percent of votes in Tunisia's presidential election, Beji Caid el-Sebsi, head of the centrist Nidaa Tounes party, won 39.5 percent of votes followed by interim president Moncef Marzouki.
A tally conducted by Anadolu Agency showed that Marzouki came second with 33.4 percent of votes in Sunday's presidential polls.
The results, if confirmed by the election commission, would mean that Sebsi and Marzouki will go into a runoff in late December as none of the candidates secured absolute majority in the vote.
Around 5.2 million Tunisians were eligible to cast their votes in the election, the first since 2011.
Around 64 percent of voters showed up at polling stations across the country, according to Tunisia's independent election commission.
Sebsi said earlier on Monday that his rival was getting support from Tunisia's Salafists and jihadists, statements that were denounced by the campaign of the interim president.
